Hunting Information
The Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge offers a wide range of hunting opportunities on fourteen of its units that include a variety of species and methods of take. The Refuge manages the number of hunters and hunting days and tailors the hunts to the specific habitat, size, and location of each unit to ensure a quality hunting experience and accommodate wildlife management activities and other recreational uses.
The public units are closed during muzzleloader and shotgun hunting (except waterfowl hunting) but remain open during archery hunting. Since there is no Sunday hunting, the public units are open every Sunday. The days on which there is hunting on the public units for the current season are shown on the table entitled Hunting Days on Public Units.
The Refuge attaches a comprehensive schedule of the units, species, method of take, and hunting dates to the hunt letter which can be found on the Refuge web site at
www.fws.gov/refuge/rappahannock-river-valley
You can review the 2026-2027 schedule in the schedule of Hunting Opportunities at Rappahannock River Valley NWR.
