- 252 acres, acquired in 2019
- Grasslands and mature woodlands that sit atop 100-foot cliffs overlooking the Rappahannock River
- Spectacular views of the Rappahannock and marshlands below
- Home to one of the largest concentration of eagles on the East Coast
- Historic location of Captain John Smith’s encounter with the Rappahannock Tribe in 1608
- Site is currently being evaluated for cultural significance before any additional work is done
- Access road rebuilt and modern house has been removed
- Currently replanting trees in agricultural land and plans to plant a buffer of trees to protect the edge of the cliffs
- Future plans include construction of an observation deck overlooking the cliffs with view of the Rappahannock River and Beverly Marsh

Carter’s Wharf Road, Warsaw VA 22572
From Rt. 360 between Warsaw and the Downing Bridge, take Route 624/Newland Road.
Proceed on Newland Rd. for 11 miles, then turn LEFT onto Carter’s Wharf Road.
Proceed for about 1/2 mile, then turn LEFT onto the Refuge.
